Paper Effects
DEMO
Straight to the heart of the idea.
Nothing in between.
Mar Vista, California

A DAW for the moment.
Paper Effects Demo is a Mac recording app built around one idea: the moment you feel something, you should be able to capture it. No routing screens. No project wizard. No menus between you and the take.
Designed to make you trust your ears, not your eyes — the way recording worked before every decision had a waveform attached to it.
Inspired by the immediacy of vintage
TEAC and Tascam tape machines.
The warmth of Yamaha mixers.
The permanence of cassette.
Combined with the precision of
Logic Pro and Ableton —
without the menus, the steps,
the friction between you and the work.
Designed to make you think with your ears,
not your eyes. The way it worked before
every take had a waveform to second-guess.
Built to keep you in a state of flow.
“There is nothing in the world more soft and weak than water, and yet for attacking things that are firm and strong there is nothing that can take precedence of it — for there is nothing so effectual for which it can be changed.”
Paper Effects was started in Mar Vista, California by musicians who kept running into the same wall: too many steps between picking up an instrument and capturing the take. Every session was interrupted by software. Every idea lost a little something by the time you got to record.
Demo is the answer to that problem. It's the tool we needed — and couldn't find anywhere else.
